Represents North America's major freight railroads and Amtrak. AAR strives to help make the rail industry increasingly safe, efficient and productive by conducting and coordinating research, development and other support programs; facilitating the seamless exchange of electronic information among railroads, their customers and suppliers; and advocating the interests of railroads in the public policy arena.

Coalition for America's Gateways and Trade Corridors (CAGTC)
|
CAGTC was established to bring national attention to the need to significantly expand U.S. freight transportation capabilities and to work toward solutions to this growing national challenge.
The Coalition has recently called for a dedicated, federal Freight Trust Fund (FTF), which would assure that vital, but under-funded freight projects receive the dollars needed to keep pace with the growth of imports and exports that will double by 2020.
The Coalition is working closely with the National Surface Transportation Policy and Revenue Study Commission.

National Surface Transportation Policy and Revenue Commission
|
The Commission was created under Section 1909 of SAFETEA-LU with Congress declaring, "that it is in the national interest to preserve and enhance the surface transportation system to meet the needs of the United States for the 21 st century."
The Commission is comprised of 12 members, representing Federal, state and local governments, MPOs, transportation-related industries, and public interest organizations, working to examine not only the condition and future needs of the nation's surface transportation system, but also short and long-term alternatives to replace or supplement the fuel tax as the principal revenue source to support the Highway Trust Fund over the next 30 years.

The Railway Progress Institute (RPI) and the Railway Supply Association (RSA) have consolidated to form the Railway Supply Institute. Organized as the voice and the promotional arm of the railway and rail rapid transit equipment and supply industry and set up to aid the railroads and rail rapid transit industry in every way possible, as a means by which to contribute to the welfare and security of the nation, to the progress and prosperity of the railroads, and to the growth and success of our own industry.
