The National Railroad Construction & Maintenance Association (NRC) is proud the announce the recipients of our 2019 educational scholarships.

The NRC awards scholarships each year to provide higher-education tuition assistance for children or grandchildren of employees of NRC member companies. Applicants must be enrolled as full-time students at an accredited two-year college offering an associate’s degree or an accredited four-year college or university offering a bachelor’s degree. Scholarship funds are sent directly to the student at the beginning of the next term of study. Award winners must attend school for a full year following receipt of the award.

Congratulations to this year’s scholarship winners:

  • First Place Winner - Alexandria Puett of the University of Nebraska ($12,000), who was sponsored by Herzog Contracting Corp.
  • Second Place Winners - Matthew Heron of Georgetown University ($6,000), who was sponsored by Harsco Rail, and Bailey Gerstner of Shorter University ($6,000), who was sponsored by Birmingham Rail

Since the NRC began awarding educational scholarships in 2013, we have provided nearly $200,000 in tuition assistance to the children and grandchildren of NRC members,” says Joe Daloisio, Track Division Manager at Railroad Construction Co. and Chairman of the NRC Scholarship Committee. “It is really gratifying to invest in the futures of these promising students and to consistently hear how much they appreciate this assistance.”

Please encourage eligible college-age children and grandchildren of NRC members to apply next year. The application period for 2020 NRC scholarships will open next summer.

What our members say…

Being a recipient of a NRC Scholarship enabled me to work fewer hours each week and spend more time at a variety of clubs and organizations that I had previously omitted from my schedule due to work. I was then able to fully serve in student government and lead and serve on multiple committees. The scholarship also gave me the opportunity to study abroad. I am so thankful for NRC's generosity and appreciate the recognition.
