The NRC hosted the 17th annual Railroad Equipment Auction on May 13, 2021. We are pleased to report it was one of the most successful in association history! All in all, more than two dozen sellers listed about 130 items that were viewed in excess of 13,000 times on line leading up to the auction.
On the day of the auction, more than 236 people logged in to view the livestream. Seventy-two entities bid on or submitted pre-bids on the available items. Excavators, tampers, and hi-rail trucks were among the most popular items generating bidding activity. Rather than shipping items to a designated auction site, sellers saved on shipping expenses and were able to post equipment details and photos online. Buyers avoided the cost and time of bidding in person and were able to size up opportunities conveniently at their fingertips.
Experienced auctioneers Blackmon Auctions administered this year's virtual auction. If you have any questions about the auction, please reach out to Thomas Blackmon.
With auction proceeds going to fund development of NRC safety resources, NRC Chairman Jim Hansen recapped the successful event with these comments: "There’s nothing more important than staying safe on the jobsite. That’s why I am particularly grateful to everyone who made this year’s annual Auction a big success. On behalf of the entire NRC community, I’d like to extend a special thanks to the NRC Auction Committee, led by Danny Brown, chief operating officer with RELAM, Inc., who also serves on our (NRC) Board of Directors. Shifting to a virtual auction presented a whole range of unknowns."

The NRC scholarship was an important component of my undergraduate studies at St. Ambrose University. It enabled me to take an internship in physical therapy in Costa Rica the summer before my junior year. It was a rewarding experience that solidified my academic direction to become a Physical Therapist. Receiving the scholarship my senior year allowed me to reduce my working hours to focus more time on my academic studies.
