NRC and REMSA member company Herzog Technologies, Inc. (HTI) hosted U.S. House of Representatives Member Troy Nehls (TX-22) for a tour of its Fort Worth, TX, facility on April 7, 2023. HTI provides innovative technology-based solutions to the railroad industry, from planning to operations of basic engineering, to complex turnkey system integration. Rep. Other attendees participating in the tour included Travis Rollings, vice president of System Services for Herzog, Eric Lausten, director, HBS Transportation and Infrastructure, and Mike McGonagle, NRC vice president government affairs & operations, and REMSA vice president government affairs.

Herzog and its divisions employ over 2600 people in the United States and Canada, move over 36 million passengers annually, and have over 4000 Herzog-owned and leased railcars. Since 1969, Herzog Contracting Corp. has expanded and grown to include five divisions, including HTI. HTI is a member of the National Railroad Construction and Maintenance Association (NRC) and the Railway Engineering-Maintenance Suppliers Association (REMSA), two U.S. trade associations that advocate on behalf of railroad contractors and suppliers. Additionally, Jim Hansen of Herzog Contracting Corp. serves on NRC’s board of directors and Troy Elbert of Herzog Services Inc., serves on REMSA’s board of directors.

About the NRC - The NRC is a U.S. trade association that advances the mutual interests of railway contractors and suppliers who construct, maintain and supply freight railroads and rail-transitand passenger lines. Founded in 1978, the NRC connects members with other railway industry professionals and government officials and policy makers. The NRC collaborates with its members, government, and industry leaders to create a positive business climate and to make railway construction and maintenance safer and more efficient.

About REMSA - REMSA’s mission is to provide global business development opportunities, to transfer knowledge about markets, products and the industry to members and their customers, and to support the initiatives advancing the North American railroad industry. REMSA was created in 1965 by the merger of the Association of Track and Structure Suppliers and the National Railway Appliances Association, two long-standing organizations in the railroad maintenance-of-way industry.  The association represents companies and individuals who manufacture or sell maintenance-of-way equipment, products, and services, or are engineers, contractors and consultants working in construction and/or maintenance of railroad transportation facilities. REMSA members constitute a large part of the maintenance-of-way industry.

What our members say…

I highly recommend hosting a grassroots event. Our event helped EVRAZ establish a connection with our elected officials. They gained a better understanding of the value we create for the local economy and our industry. The meeting also motivated our employees. They know that their elected officials find value in what they do. At our facility in Pueblo, we toured the construction of our new, long-rail mill and the solar farm that provides up to 90 percent of the energy we consume. Providing this exposure to our growth and green energy projects has generated good PR to our company and for the railway supply community too.
